April 15th

New for the year this last couple of days have been Cuckoo at Grove Ferry on the 14th and a Nightingale today (15th). There were 3 Wheatears from Harrison's Drove hide this morning while Bryan East had two more in fields at Stodmarsh. Sand Martins and Swallows are in good numbers but very few House Martins with just 5 known sightings. A ringtail Hen Harrier flew out of roost at 05:47 this morning and the Cattle Egret seen on Monday was in a field opposite Stodmarsh Court Farm yesterday and still there this morning. Sedge Warblers a plenty now with a few Reed Warblers now in but as yet no sign of any Whitethroats!!! Plenty of Linnets and Reed Buntings on the reserve and 3 or 4 pairs of Bullfinch, always nice to see.

Cattle Egret at Stodmarsh Village



There were 4 Wheatears in the field just outside Stodmarsh village this morning. Sedge and Reed Warblers are growing in numbers. There were 2 Blackcap in the alder wood and 5 Swallows over the lake. On Thursday the 13th David Feast heard a Nightingale up by the river early doors and i heard one by the water meadow at 7.30 am. Friday the 13 th at Grove ferry i had 2 Speckled wood, 8 Peacock and 10 Small white. A few Sedge and Reed Warblers were calling. There was 1 Green Sandpiper at Harrisons,2 Lapwing are on nests, one hidden among the reeds and grass, the other in the open on the bare earth. Also seen were 2 Bullfinch, 4 Linnet, 2 Treecreepers, 3 Marsh Harrier and 2 Swallows.
