July 9th

Well, this weekend was nowhere near as lively as last week. Without the presence of the Red-footed Falcon there were (a), no birders or photographers meaning just Sue, Dave and I were present and (b), not much in the way of bird life or, for that matter animal or insect life with the dull grey and windy conditions. A juvenile Ringed Plover was on the Ramp pool which, was new for the year, a Bittern was seen , 3 or 4 Green Sandpipers were on different pools and up to 5 Little Egrets were noted. The Ramp bushes were quite lively with juvenile Blue and Great Tits, Reed and Sedge Warblers .Raptors noted were 9 Marsh Harriers, 3 Kestrels and a Common Buzzard. As for Odonata, there were a couple of those common old Green-eyed Hawkers and the odd Emperor and Migrant Hawker seen and our first Willow Emerald Damselfly was behind the Marsh hide on Saturday morning.
